Karachi, February 20, 2015 (PPI-OT): A meeting held under the chairmanship of Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmad Siddiqi decided that a standard school safety programme would be developed in coordination with the concerned deputy commissioners, education department, Red Crescent and other government and non government organisations.
The meeting was attended among others by all six deputy commissioners of Karachi, senior police officials, Provincial Co-ordinator of Red Crescent Khurram Wasim, representatives of Education and other concerned departments and non government organisations.
Director Planning Development and Environment Syed Muhammad Shakeb also attended the meeting. It was decided in the meeting that school safety programme would be developed on scientific basis to meet all the safety requirements at schools and to create awareness of safety among the children and also to impart training to them.
The Meeting also decided that representative s of civil defence department, scouts and volunteers belonging to non government organisations would be taken on board to seek their support in this regard It was also decided in the meeting that training to be imparted to the children would be focused how to exit in case of emergency from schools and to remain safe in any emergency situation in schools.
The meeting further decided that master trainers would also be prepared to further impart training to concerned staff of schools as well as children role of scouts, volunteers of Red Crescent and Civil Defence would be made effective, commissioner added.
Provincial Coordinator of the Red Crescent Khurram Wasim briefed the meeting with regard to the Standard School Safety Plan. He told the meeting that Red Crescent would play its due role for the safety of children The meeting also decided that PC 1 for the work of school safety and training programme would be prepared for government schools so as to uniform school safety steps are taken by all schools to meet the safety needs in schools.
Commissioner directed the Director Planning, Development and Environment Syed Muhammad Shakeb to make efforts on priority basis for the early preparation of PC1 for school safety programme and to send it to the government for approval. Commissioner hoped that the proposed PC1 would also be helpful for the schools in other parts of the Sindh province, It was also decided in the meeting that no schools would be allowed to be validated and re registered if they did not implement the school safety programme.
