Sri Lankan Minister accepts Nisar’s invitation to visit Pakistan

Islamabad, April 22, 2016 (PPI-OT):Sri Lanka’s Minister for Law and Order, Sagala Ratnayaka has accepted an invitation from Minister for Interior and Narcotics, Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan to visit Pakistan to further cement relations between the two countries, says a Press Release received from New York here today.

The two Ministers met on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly’s Special Session on the World’s Drug Problem. Chaudhry Nisar is currently in New York as leader of 7-member delegation to represent Pakistan at the UN and spoke on Pakistan’s efforts to curb the illicit narcotics trade.

Ambassador Maleeha Lodhi, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to UN, Secretary Anti-Narcotics Division, Ijaz Ali Shah and Director General, Anti-Narcotics Force Major General Nasir Dilawar Shah also attended the meeting from Pakistan side. The Meeting between the Pakistan and Sri Lankan Ministers ranged over a number of areas of bilateral cooperation as well as narcotics control.

The Sri Lankan Minister conveyed the desire of his government to strengthen relations with Pakistan. He also briefed Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan about his country’s efforts to control drugs. The General Assembly convened a special session on the world drug problem from 19 to 21 April 2016 at UN Headquarters. The Session consisted of a general debate and interactive multi-stakeholder round tables conducted in parallel with the plenary.

Pakistan’s Minister delivered the national statement at the plenary while other members of the delegation participated in several round-table sessions. The Minister and his delegation also attended the concluding session. The Special Session adopted a General Assembly resolution entitled, “Our Joint Commitment to Effectively Addressing and Countering the World Drug Problem”.
