Lahore, January 15, 2016 (PPI-OT): Splendid facilitation package from government of Punjab can give a big blow to tourist industry especially for 70 million Chinese who travels abroad each year. It was stated by Shah Faisal Afridi, President Pak China Joint Chamber of Commerce and Industry while welcoming a 5 member Chinese delegation headed by Mr. Fan Chang Cheng.
The Delegation visited PCJCCI with a purpose to explore Joint ventures in tourism sector of Pakistan particularly in the roads, bus service, hotels and hospitality sector. The delegation also included Mr. Li Jin Boand Mr. Liu Yafe.
Shah Faisal Afridi, in his address of welcome said that “substantial amounts of foreign exchange could be earned by promoting tourism sector in Pakistan, because the geographic location of Pakistan makes it a haven for tourists without much investment. He observed that development of the tourism sector could stabilize the ramshackle economy of Pakistan.
He said that the tourism experts term Pakistan as a golden sparrow for having almost all the geographic and climatic variations, which a tourist dreams of. “With an established tourism industry many new jobs and vacancies can be created which would substantially reduce the unemployment rate in the country”, pointed Afridi.
He further said tourism in a country is an extremely important component of the economy which has been completely neglected in Pakistan. He informed that Tourism comprises several service activities including transportation, communication, hospitality, catering, entertainment and advertising. We will have to improve quality of these services to make our tourism sector competitive for the foreign tourists, Afridi Added.
Leader of the Chinese Delegation Mr. Fan Chang Cheng, while exchanging his views with President PCJCCI, said, “Tourism is an activity that accounts for around 10 percent of the world’s economic activity and is one of the main generators of employments”. “The demand for relevant products stimulates the economy by strengthening the tourism industry”, he said.
Mr. Fan Chang observed that the improved accessibility through the modern road and rail network would attract large number of tourists from across the globe, especially from China. He informed that China had a number one position in the outbound tourism market in the world with over 70 million Chinese travelling abroad each year.
He said that China had been the fastest growing tourism market in the world over during the past decade. He told that the Travel and Tourism sector had generated 10% of global GDP and 277 million jobs for the global economy in 2015. Internationally, the tourism sector has been growing at a faster rate than as compared to the other significant sectors such as automotive, financial services and health care, he added.
Mr. Fan Chang Cheng further said that the development of tourism industry gives a great boost to the SMEs in subsectors like hotels, restaurants, transport, handicrafts, shopping malls and local recreational resorts, which will become source of creating thousands of new jobs and income generating opportunities for common people.
