Islamabad, April 17, 2013 (PPI-OT): The new special unit force will be instituted on each sector in efforts to deal with the increasing crime phenomenon on National Highways and Motorways. These special units will have two wings crime fighting squad and investigation cell under the supervision of Sector Commander in order to reduce crime. We will continue serving the public and enforcing the law and provide safe journey to commuters on Highways.
National Highways and Motorway Police will make all best efforts to curb highway related crimes. Inspector General of National Highways and Motorway Police (IGP) Zafar Abbass Lak expressed these views while addressing the prize distribution ceremony to the patrolling officers of N-5 Central zone who gunned down a robber during an exchange of fire at 37 Wala Phatak near Chichawatni few days before on national highway. The ceremony was held at Zonal Office, Lahore. The DIG Dr. Muhammad Shafiq, SSP Mirza Faran Baig and SSP Dr. Inam Waheed were also present on the occasion.
The Motorway Police mobile officers Syed Nazir Ahmed Shah and Imtiaz Nabi received information of a group of four robbers looting motorists at gunpoint. The police reached the spot upon which the robbers started firing at their vehicle that was retaliated.
The robbers fled into a nearby jungle while firing at the police. After they stopped, the NH and MP rushed into the jungle and found the body of one robber. The body was later identified by local police as that of Nasir Alias Nasri a Pro-Claimed offender and wanted by the Harrapa and Chichawatni police in several cases of robbery. The IG NH and MP Zafar Abbass Lak appreciated the bravery of officer and awarded cash rewards of Rs. 50,000/- to each officer namely Syed Nazir Ahmed Shah and Imtiaz Nabi respectively.
