Islamabad: Mrs. Meira Kumar, Speaker Lok Sabha, India will arrive, Islamabad on 21st February, 2012 on a five-day state visit to Pakistan. She will be accompanied by a seven Member parliamentary delegation comprising members of the Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha.
The Speaker Lok Sabha is visiting Pakistan on the invitation of Dr. Fehmida Mirza. This visit will be the first-ever official visit by an Indian Speaker after a long period. The visit is aimed to forge better ties and future cooperation between the two parliaments. This visit also carries a special significance for both Pakistan and India who currently have women speakers in their Parliament’s lower house.
Indian Parliamentary Delegation will be received at Islamabad Airport by a Senior Parliamentarian and senior officials of the National Assembly of Pakistan. Formal welcome ceremony for the distinguished guests will be held at Parliament House on Tuesday evening when the Indian Speaker arrives there to meet Dr. Fehmida Mirza. The ceremony will be followed by a one-to-one meeting between both the Speakers.
During her visit, Speaker Lok Sabha besides meeting with President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani will also meet Chairman Senate Farooq H. Naik and Pakistan-India Friendship Group in the National Assembly of Pakistan. In the last leg of their visit, the delegation will proceed to Lahore where it will meet Governor, Chief Minister and Speaker of the Provincial Assembly, Punjab.
