Srinagar, July 16, 2014 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, Indian police have arrested a college student for participating in anti-Israel protests in Sopore town. Shakir Ahmad, a BSc 2nd year student of Government Degree College, Sopore, was taken into custody, minutes after he reached the police post, Fruit Mandi, Sopore, where he was summoned by a senior police officer on Monday afternoon following anti-Israel protests in the township.
Shakir Ahmad was ruthlessly beaten in police station and police pressurized him to divulge the names of his batch mates, who had participated in the anti-Israel protests, father of the victim said, adding that due to the beating, his son’s left hand and thumb had suffered injuries. “I went to the police station on Tuesday to meet my son and to serve him Iftari because he was fasting. His hand was bandaged due to the police beating. He is writhing in pain,” the father said.
Shakir’s brother said that hundreds of students had participated in the anti-Israel protests but only his brother was being victimized. He said that the pro-Palestine protests had concluded peacefully and hence the police had no justification to detain his brother.
