Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority to unveil Internship Programme on Friday

Lahore, November 05, 2013 (PPI-OT): The Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA) is going to initiate an internship program in collaboration with academia and SMEs by launching SMEDA Internship Portal “internship.smeda.org” on Friday, November 8, 2013 at a local hotel. According to SMEDA sources, the ceremony will be attended by a large number of business leaders, students, academic experts and SMEs’ representatives from private and public sector.

The objective of this program is to ascertain and offer demand side requirements of Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) and the industrial sector, and make them available through an e-platform for university students, who may directly apply for a position related to their interest and field of study.

SMEDA is actively developing partnerships with colleges and universities across the country that would like their students to benefit from such an initiative. On the industry side, active collaboration and networking is being developed with SME representative bodies, chambers of commerce and industry and trade associations to identify demand side of the industry.

SMEDA Internship Portal envisages a rich database of opportunities categorized by sectors and regions across Pakistan. The Portal presents multitude of features; for students it offer a unique user interface, support in building resumes, guidance in applying for the preferred positions. Similarly, SMEs shall also be provided a unique user interface, wherein the requirements of the SMEs could be placed.

The Portal also hosts a number of additional features i.e. online platform for corporate profiles, internship/job search engine, database of resource pool categorized by sector, region, education level and universities and an easy interface to shortlist candidates.

SMEDA Internship Portal is destined to create a unique opportunity for SMEs and students alike to interact directly on a dedicated platform. The e-platform shall prove to be instrumental in bridging the demand and supply gap of human resources in the country. It will also contribute towards spurring entrepreneurship and channelizing talent for building an innovative, knowledge based economy.
