Lahore, October 28, 2014 (PPI-OT): The Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA) is going to undertake a capacity building program for trade bodies with the cooperation of a German agency “SES” (Senior Experten Service) and Mr. Hans Joachim Hanusch, a senior management expert of Germany, who has arrived at Pakistan to implement the program, held a meeting today with Mr. Alamgir Chaudhry, Chief Executive Officer of SMEDA to discuss details of the initiative to be implemented by him.
While exchanging his ideas with CEO SMEDA, the German Expert told that he had a vast experience of management services with a special expertise in the best practices to be executed by Chambers of commerce and industry at world level. He assured to transfer his knowledge and expertise in Pakistan. He said that he had come to Pakistan with a plan to improve the skills of the staff of Chambers of Commerce by developing modules and implementing training programmes in several steps.
Earlier, CEO SMEDA Mr. Alamgir Chaudhry welcomed the German Expert and requested to him to begin with the local chambers working comparatively on the low scale. This is notable that according to a pat study, SMEDA had identified a need of building capacity of the trade bodies to effectively deliver products and services to SMEs, for which it was deemed essential that the delivery processes of the Chambers/ Trade Associations are worked out adequately and the personnel delivering the same are well-equipped and aware of relevant rules, regulations and best practices in their area of speciality.
Keeping in view the said objective, SMEDA has signed a contract with the German based non- profit corporation ‘SES’ for an assignment targeted for gauging of and suggesting improvements in the organizational capacities of Chambers of Commerce that they are better able to raise voice for the development needs of their members and facilitate SMEs in acquisition of business development services.
Initially, the SES Expert Mr. Hans Joachim Hanusch will work for the capacity development of Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FCCI) during his stay in Pakistan till November 21, 2014 and SMEDA has attached a team of his local staff to learn the best practices to be introduced by Mr. Hans so that the same may be replicated locally in other chambers and trade associations.
The assignment shall focus on defining and building capacity measures for the staff of Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry to facilitate SMEs of Faisalabad region especially with reference to building linkages with service providers and SME’s, review of trade policies and regulatory frameworks.
