Karachi: Sindh Governor Dr Ishrat Ul Ebad Khan has asked the Managing Director of Water Board to lower the water rates for residential and industrial consumers.
A statement issued here on Monday said he was addressing a meeting of representatives of business and industry and the officials of Water Board.
The Governor said that the water rate for residential consumers be decreased from Rs 130 per 1,000 gallons to Rs 100 per 1,000 gallons.
He said that the uniform water rates for the industrial consumers be lowered from Rs 215 per 1,000 gallons to Rs 145 per 1,000 gallons.
Water to residential consumers of Steel Mills, Cantonment Board and Port Qasim will also be also provided at the rate of Rs 100 per 1,000 gallons.
Dr Ebad also stressed that the recovery of Water Board dues be sped up and action be initiated against illegal hydrants and connections.
He further directed that the development works of Water Board be sped up.
The Governor said that it is the collective responsibility to financially strengthen the Water Board and that its capacity be enhanced.
The industrialists and businessmen attending the meeting assured their cooperation on this count, the statement added.
