Karachi: Sindh Governor Dr Ishrat Ul Ebad Khan has said that the Rs 285 million worth Hub River Road was an important highway linking Sindh province with Baluchistan. Its timely construction and repair should be ensured, he further said. He expressed these views while undertaking a visit to Hub River Road on Monday.
The governor said eight new projects were being launched in Karachi, which would be completed within scheduled time. He also inspected the carpeting of Hub River Road and the material utilised in its construction and said that this road was used by heavy 28 wheelers and that\s why special engineering and material had been used in its construction.
The completion of the road in next two months would solve the old traffic jam problem on this road. Administrator Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) Muhammad Hussain Syed, while giving a briefing to governor about the project, said that the carpeting of six kilometres (km) portion of the road would provide considerable convenience to vehicles plying on the road. About 50 percent of development work has been completed.
The three-lane highway has a length of 6.675-km and 10.5 metres width. New Jersey barriers will be installed in the central median and a total of six U-turns will be given to provide more ease to traffic. He said that construction of this road would enable vehicles to drive with 60-km per hour speed.
The governor directed to provide alternate route on the sites of roads construction and prompt removal of any construction waste. He said that improvement was seen in the development works and the impending local government system would be in better interest of the province and country.
