Karachi, November 07, 2016 (PPI-OT): Department of Culture, Tourism and Antiquities Government of Sindh has offered different countries including the US and Turkey to come forward and work together in the field of culture. The US and Turkey has taken initiative by establish information and resource centre as well as the cultural complexes in Sindh. The Minister Culture, Syed Sardar Ali Shah said that to promote the Culture and Civilization of Sindh throughout the world he has initiated the working on cultural exchange programmes and for this he has written letters to all the Consul Generals posted at Karachi.
This he said while addressing the signing ceremonies of Memorandums of Understanding (MoU) between the United States and Republic of Turkey. The signing ceremonies were held at the Auditorium of National Museum of Pakistan Karachi today. The Consul General of Turkey Cagri Yuceen along with his team members visited Culture Department and signed the MoU for the establishment of Sindh-Turk Cultural Complex at Liaquat Memorial Library Karachi.
The Complex under the title of Yunus Emre Turkesh Cultural Centre will organize Turkish cultural and artistic events and activates for the promotion of Turkish language and culture at the Culture Centre. The Director of Yunus Emre Institute Mr. Musa Erbas signed the MoU from the Turkish side whereas the Secretary Culture Akbar Laghari signed it on behalf of the Government of Sindh.
Talking to media after the event, the Minister Culture said that Pakistan and Turkey have been close friends and both the countries have a mutual heritage, civilization, art and literature even the mystic collective roots in shape of Rumi and Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai is our mutual history of Sufism. He said that the Sindh-Turkish Cultural Complex will be organizing collective cultural and literary events that will promote both the cultures and will provide a platform to the indigenous artists to demonstrate and perform their art.
The second signing ceremony held at National Museum was between Culture Department and the Public Affair Section of the US Consulate General Karachi for the three years extension of period of Lincoln Corner Karachi from Sep. 26th 2016 to November 07th, 2019. The Consul General Grace Shelton and Syed Sardar Ali Shah signed the MoU. The Lincoln Corner will be functioning like the information and resource centre with a huge collection on the topics related to the bilateral interests like Economics, Management, Business, American Studies, Politics, Law and English Language.
Speaking at the occasion the Minister Culture, Syed Sardar Ali Shah said that this memorandum of understanding is strengthening the Cultural and literary ties with the United States besides the political ones. He said that US has been our old friend and they have already established four Lincoln Corners in Sindh at Karachi, Hyderabad, Larkana and Khairpur. These are the platforms where cultural events, educational exchange programmes and other literary activities are being held regularly.
He said that he has written letters to the various Consul Generals for the initiation of different programmes on cultural exchange. The Minister told that talks with the US Consulate and British Council have been started regarding the provision of training to department officials on the subjects like Tourism, Heritage, Museumology, Library Science and Archaeology. He said that the Culture Department, Government of Sindh will provide every possible facility to all the interested countries who want to work in the field of Culture, Tourism and Archaeology. This will certainly be the era of cultural renaissance for the region, he added.
