Karachi: Karachi Affected Markets Relief Committee (KAMRC), Government of Sindh, organized the ceremony of 3rd Phase to hand over the possession of Ashura Arson-hit markets/shops to the affectees at Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) where Provincial Minister for Agriculture, Government of Sindh Syed Ali Nawaz Shah was invited as the Chief Guest.
Minister Agriculture Syed Ali Nawaz Shah while speaking at the ceremony said assured cooperation for timely completion of the reconstruction/ rehabilitation project the affectees of Ashura incidence. He also appreciated efforts of KAMRC and KCCI team. The Minister also distributed keys and possession handing over certificates to the affectees of various markets.
Muhammad Zubair Motiwala, Chairman, Karachi Affected Markets Relief Committee, Govt of Sindh and Chairman Sindh Board of Investment expressed compliments to Minister Agriculture Syed Ali Nawaz Shah and all the members of KAMRC for unanimous decisions and efforts for relief and rehabilitation of affectees.
He said that we have almost completed the project and discharged the responsibility with due diligence which was given to the private sector by the Sindh Government. He informed that compensation of 1.38 billion were given to the affectees against their claims for loss of goods whereas 207 million were allocated for reconstruction/renovation of affected markets.
He said that contract was accorded on open tender and KAMRC board comprises of members from the federal, provincial and local governments. He appreciated the efforts of Convener Construction KAMRC with whose efforts and hard work the project was near to completion.
Mian Abrar Ahmad, President-KCCI stated that since the happening of 28th December 2009 tragedy and till date, the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry is committed for relief and rehabilitation of the affectees. He said that the project will be completed by May or June.
He said that KCCI team assisted and performed relief and rehabilitation task with sincerity and devotion. He assured continuous cooperation of KCCI to the affectees as well as the Government.
A.Q. Khalil, Member and Convener Construction Committee-KAMRC, earlier gave a brief presentation on the reconstruction phase. He highlighted that the KAMRC has carried out quality construction work on modern lines and the Government’s fund was utilized with honesty. For this reason the Government and affectees have appreciated and thanked the Karachi Chamber.
Rafiq Jadoon, President Anjuman-e-Tajiran Bolton Markets paid tribute to the Government and the members of Karachi Affected Markets Relief Committee and also requested to ensure timely release of funds to quickly complete the project.
One this occasion, 118 keys and possession letters were distributed among the affectees of Quettawala market, Mashallah market, Ferozpurwala market, Sualeh market, Akbar market, Tayyabi market, Qutbi market.
