Karachi, December 13, 2012 (PPI-OT): Rs277 million of funds and PC-I regarding renovation of Clifton Sewerage Pumping Station has been approved by Government of Sindh. The renovation work of the pumping station is expected to start within a month. Clifton Pumping Station provides sewerage facilities to Bath Island, Clifton, Civil Lines, Old City Area, I.I. Chundrigar Road, Saddar and adjoining areas. About 25 million gallons of sewage is pumped out for disposal from these areas, daily.
In an attack on Civil Line Police station next to the pump during November 2010 the pumping station was destroyed as well. After the accident temporary sewage pumping arrangements were made however, KW and SB was facing difficulties to ensure swift sewage disposal, however lack of funds disabled KW and SB to renovate the station.
Managing Director KW and SB Misbahuddin Farid briefed Governor of Sindh Dr. Ishrat ul Ebad Khan regarding the situation requesting him to support KW and SB for the renovation of said pumping station. Governor of Sindh directed that the PC-I of the project should be submitted to Government of Sindh.
Governor Sindh Dr. Ishrat ul Ebad Khan, Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah and Minister Local Bodies taking personal interest in resolving the problems of the citizens did not just approved the PC-I of the project but also approved 277 million rupees of funds.
M.D KW and SB Misbahuddin Farid has appointed Chief Engineer Hasan Eijaz Kazmi the Project Director and Hashim Abbass the Project Manager. He directed the said officers to complete the tendering and other phases as soon as possible so that the renovation work be started within a month’s time.
M.D KW and SB further stated that, Government of Sindh for the betterment of the citizens has approved several projects on the request of KW and SB but also approved funds for these projects. He thanked Governor Sindh Dr. Ishrat ul Ebad, Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah and Minister Local Bodies Agha Siraj Khan Durrani for approving the funds keeping the current KW and SB situation in mind.
Capacity of the said pumping station after renovation would increase from 25 million gallons to 40 million gallons daily. This would ensure swift disposal of sewage from Clifton, Bath Island, Civil Line, Old City Area, Saddar and adjoining areas.
