Sindh chamber of agriculture delegation calls on chief minister Sindh

Karachi, June 12, 2013 (PPI-OT): Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah has strictly directed secretary Irrigation to ensure the reach of water at Khairpur Gambo and other tail-end growers within 24 hours. He added that there was shortage of water, to stop the wastage of water and ensuring the availability of water to tail-end growers Irrigation officials should evolve an effective and comprehensive strategy.

He issued these directives during meeting with a delegation of Sindh Chamber of Agriculture which called on him at CM House last night. The delegation comprised President Dr. Nadeem Qamar, General Secretary Nabi Bux Sathio, Mir Zafarullah Talpur, Hameer Soomro, Abdul Jabbar Memon and others.

Sindh Chief Minister stressed upon the irrigation officials to ensure justified distribution of water as province was facing shortage of water. He warned the officials of the Irrigation department to take matter of shortage of water seriously “Negligence on part of any official would not be tolerated and action will be initiated against him” Chief Minister Sindh said.

Chief Minister Sindh informed the delegation that construction of Darwat Dam, initiated on the special directives of President Asif Ali Zardari is on verge of completion through which 36 thousand acre barren land would be made agri-able.

He added that to meet the shortage of water more small water storages would be constructed. He said that on the keen interest of President Asif Ali Zardari drip irrigation system was introduced in the province and incumbent provincial government will take steps to improve and strengthen the system in the province.

He added that drip irrigation system is not only effective to face the shortage of water but it also helps in ending water logging and salinity. While warning the irrigation officials to improve their performance, CM Sindh said that cleanliness and de-silting of canals, distributaries and water courses is of utmost importance.

He added that due to silting and lack of cleanliness water carrying capacity of canals has decreased “ this issue must be addressed with special focus” CM Sindh directed. Sindh Chief Minister said that present government is trying to develop the agriculture sector on modern lines and such projects would be launched to educate modern techniques and methods of farming to growers.

He said government was also taking measures for progress of livestock sector and with the assistance of world Bank, a model live stock farm has been established at Bahnbhore, Distt Thatta. Secretary Irrigation Mr. Babar Effendi informed the meeting that there was increase in water and water shortage will end gradually.

He informed that lining of canals and distributaries in Khairpur, Nawabshah other areas would be initiated which will help to stop the wastage of water. Earlier delegation felicitated Syed Qaim Ali Shah for assuming responsibilities third time as CM Sindh. Sindh Chamber of Agriculture delegation apprised the CM Sindh about the water scarcity and other problems faced by growers.

They appreciated the farmers and growers financially policies of Govt and hoped that these polices will continue and more steps will be taken for progress and prosperity of growers. Delegation informed the CM Sindh about launching FM Radio station for education and awareness of growers . CM Sindh assured the delegation all possible assistance in this connection.
