Srinagar, January 23, 2016 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, complete shutdown was observed in Naina, Bandina and several adjacent areas of Pulwama against the recent killing of two youth by Indian troops. All shops and business establishments remained closed while traffic was off the roads in the areas. People staged protests in Bandina, the native village of one of the martyred persons. The locals are demanding for quick action and probe into the killings and for punishment to the culprits.
The killings had triggered massive protests followed by clashes between the protesters and Indian police in which at least 40 persons were injured. Three of the injured sustained bullet injuries. Many Hurriyet leaders visited Pulwama to express solidarity with the bereaved families and addressed public gatherings.
Indian police arrested Hurriyet leaders including Abdul Ahad Parra, Feroz Ahmad Khan, Molvi Bashir Urfani, Abdul Rasheed Dar and Ghulam Rasool at Kulpora in Pulwama when they were on their way back to Srinagar after addressing gatherings in Naina and Bandina areas. They were lodged at Lassipora Police Station in Pulwama.
