Lahore, August 18, 2016 (PPI-OT):Pakistani filmmaker of international repute, Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy met Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, here today and paid tributes to Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on revolutionary steps of Punjab government for the welfare and empowerment of women. Talking on the occasion, Sharmeen Obaid said that Punjab government has taken solid steps for the progress and empowerment of women.
Government measures for the protection of women are appreciable, she added. Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said that Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy has win laurels for the country and the nation by winning Oscar award twice by making excellent documentary films. Winning Oscar award twice by a Pakistani filmmaker is an honour for the country, he added. He said that Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy has highlighted social problems of women through her films.
He said that making film on the topic, murder in the name of honour, is a good achievement of Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy. Shahbaz Sharif said that Pakistani women are talented who have proved their worth in all sectors. He said that a large population of Pakistan comprised women and development cannot be made without participation of women in practical field.
He said that women have also to display their capabilities in practical field for the progress and prosperity of Pakistan. He said that besides empowerment of women, their protection is also necessary for the development and prosperity of Pakistan. Punjab government has made historic measures for the protection of women rights, he added. He said that social problems can be overcome through coordination between government and civil society.
