Srinagar, April 18, 2016 (PPI-OT):Kashmiri woman leader, Shamim Shawl has informed the UN Secretary General Mr Ban Ki-Moon about the latest human rights situation in occupied Kashmir. According to Kashmir Media Service, in her letter to Ban Ki-moon she said that gave human rights violations were taking place in the territory because of continuous denial of Kashmiris’ right to self-determination.
Following is the text of the letter:
“His Excellency Mr Ban Ki-moon Secretary General United Nations New York
Excellency Sir, May I take this opportunity to write to your Excellency about the wanton denial of the fundamental freedoms particularly the right to life to the people of Occupied Jammu and Kashmir..A grave and extraordinary situation due to abuse of human rights has arisen in the occupied state .Five people have already fallen prey to the unprovoked frenzy of the occupation forces in Handwara
The Kashmiri struggle for self-determination is seven decade old. UN charter and the UN resolutions affirm the right of the Kashmiri people to choose a political future of their choice in a UN organised plebiscite
International human rights law and international humanitarian law is applicable in this conflict area. It needs no emphasis that any state and so the republic of India is under a basic obligation to protect the life and the physical integrity of its citizens. Therefore if a state machinery turns itself in to an apparatus of terror which persecutes specific groups of the population, those groups cannot be held obligated to remain loyally under the jurisdiction of the state. Any government that engages in genocide forfeits its right to governance from the citizens it is targeting. If the international law is to remain faithful to its own premises, it must give the actual victims a remedy enabling them to live in dignity.
Excellency: As a custodian of international peaceful co-existence we appeal to you to unleash your preventive diplomacy to save the people of Jammu and Kashmir from a reign of terror and disproportionate and unprovoked state violence
With warmest regards
Yours sincerely Shamim Shawl, Representative, International Muslim Women Union…Geneva”
