Shahbaz Sharif visits families of victims who died due to poisoned sweetmeat in Layyah

Lahore, May 03, 2016 (PPI-OT):Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif went to Chak 105/ML, Layyah today and met the families of the persons who died due to poisoned sweetmeat. He expressed sorrow and grief over the tragedy and also offered Fateha for the departed souls. The Chief Minister went to houses of the victims one by one and expressed sympathies and condolence with them. He also inquired from them the details of the incident.

He expressed condolence with the head of the family of which 13 members had died Umar Hayat as well as Nasir Bibi, Muhammad Nazir, Bushra Perveen, Fatima Bibi, Zahida Bibi, Muhammad Siddique, Salma Bibi, Hamida Bibi, Azmat Bibi, Faiz Muhammad, Riasat Ali, Shakir Ali, Muhammad Nawaz, Rehmat Ali, Muhammad Niaz, Kalsoom Bibi, Muhammad Akbar and Maqbool Hussain. Talking to the affectees, the Chief Minister said that everyone is grieved over this tragedy.

He said that his sympathies as well as that of Punjab government are with the bereaved families. He said that Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif has also expressed his sorrow and grief and sympathized with the affected persons. He said that Prime Minister as well as the whole nation is shocked over the loss of 30 innocent and precious human lives and he has come to share their grief on behalf of Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif. He said that the martyrdom of 30 persons due to poisoned sweetmeat is a tragedy.

Shahbaz Sharif said that Prime Minister has specially sent him to condole with the affected families. He said that Prime Minister is also grieved over this incident. He said that no effort will be spared for providing justice to the aggrieved persons. The Chief Minister announced provision of jobs to the members of the families of the victims and said that Punjab government will take all possible care of them. He said that though the deceased persons cannot be brought back but he will do everything possible for their families.

He said that an inquiry is being conducted into the tragic incident and it is his promise to them that stern legal action will be taken against the persons responsible for negligence. He said that complete justice will be provided to the families of the victims. He said that action will also be taken against the persons who poisoned sweetmeat and they will not be able to escape punishment. Shahbaz Sharif while consoling the affectees said that he will again visit them after arrival of the inquiry report and take measures to meet the demands of justice.

He assured that if there was any negligence on the part of administration or in the treatment of the victims, it will also come into light in this report and the persons responsible will not be spared. He said that the needs of the area will also be met on priority basis. The Chief Minister announced up-gradation of basic health center of the area and said that the roads and schools of the village will also be improved.

He said that Punjab government will continue to extend maximum cooperation to the affected families. He said that anyone found guilty in the light of the inquiry report will have to face stern accountability and exemplary punishment. He said that those who have looked after the patients properly deserve appreciation. The Chief Minister was given a briefing on this tragic incident. He expressed his indignation over unsatisfactory answers in the briefing.

The Chief Minister reached Chak 105/ML Layyah by ordinary van and expressed his displeasure over placing of chairs on the stage. Provincial Minister for Food Bilal Yasin, Sahibzada Faiz-ul-Hassan MNA, Ch. Ashfaq Ahmad MPA, Qaiser Abbas Khan Magsi MPA, Provincial Parliamentary Secretary on Home Mehr Ejaz Ahmed Uchlana, former Provincial Minister and District President Pakistan Muslim League-N Malik Ahmad Ali Aulakh, former MPA Malik Abdul Shakoor Sawag, Commissioner DG Khan, RPO Layyah, DCO Layyah and DPO Layyah were present in the meeting.
