Shabbir, several people injured in police action

Srinagar, April 13, 2014 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, several people including senior leader of the All Parties Hurriyet Conference, Shabbir Ahmed Shah, were injured when Indian police subjected an anti-election rally to brute force in Shopian, today.

The police intercepted the rally in Sugan area of Shopian and resorted to brute force to disperse the participants. Shabbir Ahmed Shah and many people sustained injuries in the police action. The police also arrested the senior APHC leader along with some Hurriyet activists and lodged them in a local police station.

Earlier, addressing public gatherings in different areas of Shopian, Shabbir Ahmed Shah and other Hurriyet leaders including Farooq Ahmed Dar and Muhammad Yousuf Naqash said that India was trying to deceive the international community through sham polls in the territory that Jammu and Kashmir was its part and Kashmiri people had faith in the Indian democracy.

They said that Kashmir had never been a part of India and the day was not far off when the Kashmiris would get rid of its bondage. Their addresses were punctuated by high-pitched anti-India and pro-liberation slogans.

APHC leaders, Zafar Akbar Butt and Javed Ahmed Mir, addressing public meetings in different areas of Srinagar appealed to the people to remain aloof from the sham polls.

The police took into custody the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front leaders, Noor Muhammad Kalwal, Bashir Kashmiri, Ghulam Muhammad Dar and Muhammad Afzal Sheikh, from Shri Bhat Mohallah of Srinagar during election boycott campaign. The JKLF Chairman, Muhammad Yasin Malik, in a statement condemned the arrest of party leaders.

On the other hand, the Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Freedom Movement, Muhammad Sharif Sartaj, in a statement in Jammu said that all pro-India Kashmiri politicians were equally responsible for the sufferings of the Kashmiris.

The Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Freedom League, Muhammad Farooq Rehmani, in his statement urged the UN to fulfil its responsibilities towards resolving the Kashmir dispute in accordance with the Kashmiris’ aspirations.

Meanwhile, Indian troops in their fresh act of state terrorism martyred two Kashmiri youth during a siege and search operation in Khrew area of Pulwama district, today. Earlier, two Indian policemen were killed when unknown gunmen attacked the house of an activist of pro-India party, National Conference, in the same area. A youth was critically injured when Indian police fired pallets on peaceful protesters in Palhalan area of Baramulla district.
