Srinagar, August 23, 2015 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, dozens of Tehreek-e-Hurriyet Jammu and Kashmir activists have been injured and many arrested including party general secretary Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai when Indian police used brute force on their protest demonstration in Srinagar, today. Indian police today resorted to heavy teargas shelling and water cannons on Tehreek-e-Hurriyet activists, who were staging a sit-in protest at Hyderpora Chowk in Srinagar against authorities’ decision not to allow the TeH to hold a convention on its foundation day.
Pro-freedom and pro-Pakistan slogans like “We Want Freedom” and “Pakistan Zindabad” were raised on the occasion. Those who were critically injured in the police action included Ghulam Qadir War, Javed Ahmad, Zafar Habib and Sajjad Ahmad. They have been shifted to Soura Medical Institute for treatment. Earlier, the authorities banned the proposed party convention of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat, at Hyderpora by deploying heavy contingent of police around the entire venue.
“Our party delegates were not allowed to enter the venue and police have turned the area into a virtual garrison,” the party spokesman Ayaz Akbar told in a media interview. The octogenarian Chairman of Tehreek-e-Hurriyet, Syed Ali Gilani had planned a day-long party convention at Hyderpora which was to be attended by the party members and office bearers. The function on the occasion was to be addressed by Syed Ali Gilani.
