Srinagar, January 18, 2019 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the Chairman of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat Jammu and Kashmir, Mohammad Ashraf Sehrai has sought the release of all the illegally detained Hurriyat leaders and activists languishing in different jails of India and the territory.
Mohammad Ashraf Sehrai in a statement issued in Srinagar deplored that hundreds of Kashmiris were languishing in jails of India and the territory for their political ideology and beliefs and even were being subjected to ill-treatment. “The draconian law, Public Safety Act (PSA), is invoked against the detainees on flimsy and baseless grounds,” he added.
He also condemned the mental and physical torture of Hurriyat leaders Abdul Majeed Parray and Shahbaz Ahmed Mir of Hajin in police custody. He said severely thrashing of political prisoners is not only unacceptable but against the basic principles of humanity.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Conference, Shabbir Ahmad Dar and other Hurriyat leaders including Mukhtar Ahmad Waza, Bilal Sidiiqi, Imtiyaz Reshi and Firdous Shah as well as delegations of JKSM, JKML, JKNF, Islami Tanzeem Azadi, and DFP, and HR activist, Ahsan Untoo met Hurriyat leader, Mushtaq-ul-Islam, who was recently released from jail after prolonged illegal detention. The leaders on the occasion demanded unconditional release of all political detainees. “Kashmir dispute cannot be resolved by jailing our leaders but it needs concrete political measures to ensure long lasting peace in the region,” they added.
