Srinagar, March 07, 2014 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, booking Kashmiri students under sedition charges has invited widespread condemnation from across the territory. The Chairman of All Parties Hurriyet Conference, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, in a media interview in Srinagar termed the sedition charges against Kashmiri students an utter intolerance of a country that claims to be world’s biggest democracy.
The Mirwaiz said it is unfortunate to see the approach adopted by the Uttar Pradesh Government against the Kashmiri students. “Cheering Pakistan in a cricket match can now earn sedition charges. This is absolutely absurd and has unveiled the real face of Indian democracy,” he said.
Mirwaiz said Hurriyet strongly condemns the sedition charges slapped on Kashmiri youth and urges New Delhi to withdraw the FIRs forthwith so that the career of students is saved.
The Jammu and Kashmir Coalition of Civil Societies (JKCCS), condemning the action against Kashmiri students, said there is no legal justification for the action- from suspension to the registration of an FIR- in the instant case.
“The Meerut incident follows an established and decades-old pattern of violence,” JKCCS president Parvez Imroz said in a statement. Kashmiri leader, Sajjad Ghani Lone denounced the action, terming the situation as unfortunate. “The discriminatory action against the students is unwarranted and against the spirit of sports,” he added. Dukhtaran-e-Millat chief, Aasiya Andrabi expressed serious concern over the matter.
