Peshawar: Secretary Health Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Muhammad Ashfaq Khan, chaired the provincial monthly polio review meeting at Health Secretariat on Monday. Director General Health Services, Director PPHI, all EDOs (H), Provincial EPI office and representatives of the Chief Minister Secretariat, PDH Afghan Refugees, world Health Organization and UNICEF attended the meeting.
The performance of each of the 18 districts involved in the December anti-polio vaccination campaign was presented by Dr. Janbaz Afridi, Deputy Director EPI. Consistency in satisfactory performance of D.I.Khan, Swat and Karak districts was appreciated.
EDOs Health of these districts informed that effective team building, ownership, focus on quality preparation at the UC level, proper daily evening meeting and follow up of the DCO have been the key factors for sustaining the quality of work in their respective districts. Other districts were directed to double up their efforts and achieve all performance targets for the pre-campaign, during campaign and post-campaign phases. The next campaign will start from 30th January to Ist February and will be held in all 25 districts of the province.
The Secretary Health while concluding the meeting stressed upon building mechanism and system at the union council level and ensure that all activities are in line with the set targets, achievement of which is responsibility of every EDOH.
He also directed all EDOs (H) to make best use of the two weeks gap available between today and start of pre-campaign activities, i.e. 15th January 2012 to improve routine vaccination coverage and orientation training of Union Council Polio Eradication Committee members.
The meeting ended with the commitment that each district will meet the performance targets set out in Augmented National Emergency Action Plan for Polio Eradication 2012.
