Gender-based bank loans to help empower women

Islamabad, June 24, 2018 (PPI-OT): President of the FPCCI Ghazanfar Bilour has said that we are dedicated to promoting the economic and social empowerment of women. Woman are capable enough elevate themselves out of poverty to play an important role in the national development while the government needs to expedite the women empowerment initiatives, he said.

Speaking at a seminar jointly organised by the Islamabad Women’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IWCCI), and State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) regarding relaxations designed for the women entrepreneurs, he said that women can become powerful agents of transformation. They can be great contributing members of society by elevating the capacity and productivity of their communities, he added.

Ghazanfar Bilour said that empowering women and achieving gender equality is key to driving economies and reducing feminized poverty. Addressing the audience, President IWCCI Reem Abbasi and former VP FPCCI Naima Ansari said that federal and provincial government has taken some steps leaving a lot to be desired.

We stand for the rights of girls and women to create a better future for all of us by supporting women in business, they added. Reem Abbasi noted that banks consider lending to women and SMEs risky and they lack skills to deal with the both which has made financing a big for businesswomen. At the occasion, the Assistant Chief Manager of SBP Rabia Yaqoob Khan said that we have planned to give gender-based targets to the banks soon while businesswomen would be provided cheap loans.

Banks would be directed to increase lending to SMEs and accept movable assets as collateral. She said that SME leading would be improved substantially as the level of non-performing loans has reduced by almost a half. She said that the credit rating of a bank will be linked to the lending to the SMEs while the time of documentation will be halved while the policy of gender-based loans is being implemented which will help speed up empowerment of women.

Abbasi elected President of the Islamabad Women’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry

Islamabad, October 03, 2017 (PPI-OT): Known entrepreneur Reem Abbasi has been elected unopposed as President of the Islamabad Women’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IWCCI). Sofia Akhter has been elected as Senior Vice President while Munazza Arif has been voted as Vice President of IWCCI. Those who were elected to the Executive Committee of the IWCCI include Hajrah Kashif, Neelum Nayab, Shahida Mazhar, Musarrat Jabeen, Rubina Lahooti, and Nosheen Ali.

A press release issued here today said that the Annual General Meeting of the IWCCI was held with chamber’s outgoing president in the chair. During the meeting, keeping in view her services, Ms Reem Abbasi was elected as President of the IWCCI. Samina Fazil, founder president of the chamber took the oath from the newly-elected office bearers.

Parliamentary Secretary for Capital Administration and Development Division, Maiza Hameed, the chief guest, speaking on the occasion said that success of nations is tied to the women empowerment. She said that Government has taken a number of laudable steps to empower women and a lot is yet to be done.

Maiza Hameed said that families are healthier, educated and balanced while productivity improves and incomes increase when women are given authority. Empowering women and reduction in gender gap is the key to change and essential to achieving the objective of poverty eradication. Women play a vital role in the development of households, society, and the country, therefore, their role cannot be neglected, she added.

Speaking at the occasion, the newly-elected President IWCCI Reem Abbasi thanked the members of IWCCI for reposing confidence in her saying that, “We can only become a developed nation when women are encouraged and their skills utilised properly.” She said that she will assist women so that they can have a voice and become economically empowered.

While lauding the women empowerment initiatives undertaken by the government asking the authorities to do more in this regard. She said that she would follow the steps of Samina Fazil to work for the promotion of businesswomen. Samina Fazil said that He said we aim to make socially and economically-empowered women and will continue to support women entrepreneurs by enhancing their knowledge and skills.

Islamabad Women’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry to hold expos annually in the European Union

Islamabad, June 01, 2017 (PPI-OT):The outcome of the recent visit of women entrepreneurs to Europe proved to be very encouraging therefore we have decided to hold exhibition in different countries annually to introduce Pakistani products, a business leader said. Women entrepreneurs linked to Islamabad Women’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IWCCI) recently visited Hungary and Italy where they were delighted to know about the demand for Pakistani garments, jewellery, handicrafts etc., said Samina Fazil, founder President, IWCCI.

She said that encouraged with the response of the market, we have decided to hold exhibitions in different European countries to introduce Pakistani products which are already in great demand. Our garments, clothing, jewellery and handicrafts are inferior to none but not available in the markets in Europe while the shops are full of Indian items that are not match to Pakistani products, she said.

It is the responsibility of the Government as well as the private sector to promote Pakistani products that are needed in Europe, said added. Samina Fazil said that Pakistani Ambassador in Hungary Muhammad Syrus Sajjad Qazi and our Ambassador in Rome Nadeem Riaz as well as the Commercial Counsellor Saira Imdad Ali extended all out cooperation to make our visit a success.

They arranged our meeting with businessmen, informed about the market dynamics, latest trends and helped us arrange exhibitions to promote Pakistani products which is laudable, she added. She said that our plans for promotion of trade links in areas of common interests and exploring avenues of export of made in Pakistan items has proved successful encouraging every member of the delegation that included Mumtaz Akhter, Munazza Arif, Shahida Mazhar, Rizwana Atif, Naadia Sami, Saadia Hassan, Anjum Arif and Safina Insaf.
