Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan holds an awareness seminar on the provisions of new Companies Act, 2017

Karachi, September 19, 2017 (PPI-OT): An interactive full day “Seminar on Companies Act, 2017” was organized at a Marriott hotel by Southern Regional Committee (SRC) of Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan (ICAP) show casing eminent speakers. More than 600 ICAP members from industry and profession attended this event and gained valuable insights from subject experts and seasoned professionals.

Mr. Nadeem Yousuf Adil, President of ICAP welcomed the participants and explained the importance of the newly enacted law. He thanked SECP in participating in this event and assured that ICAP would proactively be supporting SECP in its endeavours for improving the corporate sector of Pakistan. Ms. Bushra Aslam, Executive Director SECP spoke at length on the key changes brought in Companies Act, 2017.She also shared highlights of “Company Incorporation Regulations and Intermediaries Registration Regulations” with the audience.

Changes and Implementation challenges relating to the new provisions on corporate cases, directors, investment in associates, related party transactions, auditor’s qualification and audit report, disclosure requirements under fourth and fifth schedule and global register of beneficial ownership were discussed. The speakers included Mr. Amar Naseer, Legal Director and Company Secretary Unilever Pakistan Limited, Mr. Farrukh Rehman, Chairman Accounting Standards Board of ICAP, Mr. Arslan Khalid, Partner EY Ford Rhodes, Mr. Amyn Malik, Partner KPMG Taseer Hadi and Co and Mr. Zulfikar Akthar, Partner A.F. Ferguson and Co. Chartered Accountants.

Mr. Ehsan Malik, CEO Pakistan Business Council gave the corporate perspective. The first session closing remarks were given by Mr. Asad Ali Shah, Partner Deloitte Yousuf Adil and the closing remarks were given by Syed Masoud Ali Naqvi, Advisor KPMG Taseer Hadi and Co. ICAP held a seminar in Lahore in August and will be holding more such awareness sessions for the benefit of all the stakeholders.

Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan facilitates talented students towards the bright future

Lahore, May 24, 2017 (PPI-OT):The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan participated in the leading Education Expo in all major cities of Pakistan. The ICAP stalls attracted thousands of visitors, including people from various walks of life particularly students and counsellors. A number of parents also accompanied their children in the expo at ICAP stall at each station to explore the best available learning opportunities for them.

Chief Minister Sindh, Syed Murad Ali Shah visited the ICAP stall and applauded the contributions made by the Institute and chartered accountants to strengthen the economic development of country and are leading the corporate sector towards success. The minster was briefed that around 25% to 30% of ICAP professionals are spread across the globe and are in high demand due to their professional competence, integrity and drive for professional excellence. He urged the Institute being leading accountancy body of Pakistan help Government of Sindh in attaining the glory of the province within shortest possible time.

It is worth mentioning here that besides giving updated information about the CA stream, fee structure, exemptions and scholarship opportunities etc. a number of students have informed about unique characteristics of CA Pakistan such as global mobility, leadership roles etc. that’s helps in removing uncertainties and doubts and helps the students in decision making.

Executive Director ICAP, Mr. Razi Khan stated while addressing to the media on the ICAP stall that the understanding of strengths and weaknesses of an individual can be of tremendous value for their life and making career choices. The awareness for students is invaluable because it will help them to focus on the important things in an optimal way for the successful life.

He also informed the students about the career prospects of the Chartered Accountancy profession, its numerous benefits and scholarship scheme as it is one of the most sought-after professional qualifications of the world for talented youth having interest in accountancy, finance and business. He further stated that credibility of ICAP and its members have been a hallmark worldwide due to high professionalism and quality of work.

The profession of Chartered Accountancy is open for all who have the courage to take on challenges, aim to seek in depth knowledge and have a desire for achieving excellence. The education expo provided an excellent platform to students for sharing knowledge and, learning from the experiences of the faculty member of different universities.

Chartered Accountant Women Committee organizes Women’s Day Celebration

Lahore, April 13, 2017 (PPI-OT): The recently constituted Chartered Accountants Women’s Committee of Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan (ICAP) celebrated Women’s Day at ICAP Auditorium, Islamabad. The theme of the event was “Be Bold for Change”. Over the decades, the objective of Women’s Day celebration has evolved and embraced culture and ethnicity to emerge as a celebration of appreciation, respect and love towards women.

International Women’s Day is celebrated every year on March 8, recognizing and appreciating women’s political, economic and social achievements over the decades. This year the event has been celebrated on April 11 as the committee was constituted recently and required some take to plan the event.

Bushra Aslam, Executive Director SECP stated in opening remarks that the change is already visible in Rawalpindi and Islamabad as when she started career 21 years ago there were only three students in this profession and now there are 55 qualified Chartered Accountants and hundreds of trainee students in the firms.

Mr. Rashid Ibrahim (Council Member ICAP) said that International Women day is a global recognition to social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity. He added that ICAP is an equal opportunity employer and the recently constituted CAWC is an example of gender equality at ICAP.

Uzma Adil Khan, Chairperson OGRA and member CAWC stated that the theme of Be Bold for Change for today’s event is the way forward for all the professionals. She informed the participants about how she has faced the challenge of life after her husband passed away and she had to raise two infants.

Panel discussion on “2030 agenda for sustainable development formed an integral part of the Women day celebration at ICAP. The panellist comprised of Mr. Rashid Ibrahim (Council member ICAP, Ms. Bushra Aslam (Executive Director SECP), Ms. Quratul Ain Hadi (Financial Management Analyst, World Bank), Ms. Iffat Husain (Partner BDO), Ms. Fariha Wajid (Head of Accounting and Finance, NUST Business School).

The panellist emphasized that Gender equality is not only a fundamental human right, but a necessary foundation for a peaceful, prosperous and sustainable world and reiterated their commitment towards providing women and girls with equal access to education, health care, decent work environment, and representation in economic decision-making processes at home and workplace for sustainable economies and benefit of the society and humanity at large.

They stated that currently women represent 7% of the total qualified Chartered Accountants and going forward this proportion would change as currently the girl trainee students comprise of 13%. CAWC would devise various programs to make sure that awareness of the profession is created and mentoring opportunities are provided to students and members.

Mr. Farrukh Rehman (Council Member ICAP and Chairman CAWC) in his closing remarks presented the way forward for increase in women participation in the profession. He also thanked all the participants for their valuable contribution. ICAP CA Women Achievement Award was presented to Iffat Hussain, Partner BDO, being first qualified chartered accountant in Islamabad Rawalpindi and ICAP CA Girl Achievement Award was awarded to Miss Isghana, being outstanding student and aspiring chartered accountant.
