Islamabad: Science and Technology (S and T) Pavilion organized by PASTIC in collaboration with Islamabad Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Islamabad Expo 2012 at Jinnah Convention Centre Islamabad closes on Sunday April 8th 2012 PASTIC.
The main objectives of organizing S and T/R and D Pavilion were to provide a market place to the R and D organizations/Universities for the promotion of their innovative technologies, products and services to the women entrepreneurs and to create awareness amongst women entrepreneurs about R and D developments in different industrial sectors in the Country.
Department of Food and Nutrition and Department of Horticulture and Biotechnology of Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University (PMAS-UAAR), Rawalpindi; Pakistan Council of Renewable Energy Technology (PCRET), Islamabad; Academia Industry Linkage Forum (AILF), Lahore; National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA), Peshawar; Institute of Food and Science Nutrition, University of Sargodha; Pakistan Council of Research in Water Resources (PCRWR), Islamabad; National Agriculture Research Council (NARC); Department of Micro Applied and Environmental Biology, Quaid-e-Azam University (QAU), Islamabad; The Islamia University of Bahawalpur (IUB) and Ek Hunnar Ek Nagar (AHAN), Multan participated in the Exhibition by displaying their products and technologies for women entrepreneurs.
Prominent among them were various food processing and preservation technologies (developed by Institute of Food and Science Nutrition, University of Sargodha, NIFA and Department of Food and nutrition Arid University, Rawalpindi), Kitchen gardening techniques (NARC and Horticulture Department of Arid university), PCRWR’s water testing and purification technologies, Mango Seed oil extraction technology developed by Islamia University having a potential to be used in cosmetic industry as a substitute for cocoa butter that is an expensive imported raw material. Others were solar heating equipment of PCRET and Waste water treatment technologies developed by QAU.
PASTIC under its UIP-Programme is involved in building linkages between R and D/University and Industry for enhancing innovations, competiveness and productivity of indigenous technologies.
Mrs Samina Fazal, Founder President Islamabad Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry while addressing the audience at the closing ceremony said that innovations in business should be explored through research and development for the benefit of women entrepreneurs.
Mr. Javed Bhatti, president Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry congratulated the organizers for the successful completion of the Islamabad Expo 2012 and Science and Technology pavilion. He appreciated the linkage between industry and research and development organizations/universities. He further added that such linkages are crucial for the growth and up gradation of women entrepreneurs.
Dr. Manzoor Hussain Sooomro, Chairman Pakistan Science Foundation gave the brief overview of PASTIC and PSF. While addressing the concluding ceremony he ensured that PASTIC and PSF would extend all cooperation to the women chamber in the organizations of exhibitions as well as skill development of the women entrepreneurs.
Ms Nageen Ainuddin, Director PASTIC gave vote of thanks to all the participating R and D organizations and universities for their contribution to the S and T pavilion. At the end, shields were distributed among the participants.
