Sartaj Aziz represents Pakistan at Commemoration of the 60th Anniversary of Asian-African Conference in Bandung, Indonesia

Islamabad, April 24, 2015 (PPI-OT): Mr. Sartaj Aziz, Adviser to the Prime Minister on National Security and Foreign Affairs, represented Pakistan at the Commemoration of the 60th Anniversary of the Asian-African Conference (Bandung Conference) held in Bandung, Indonesia on 24 April 2015.

The special commemorative meeting was held in Gedung Merdeka, which was also the venue of the 1955 Bandung Conference. Pakistan, together with Burma, Ceylon, India and Indonesia, was co-sponsor of the 1955 Conference.

The commemorative events included an historical walk by the participating leaders of Asian and African countries, recitation of the Ten Principles of Bandung by the Mayor of Bandung, statements by the President of Indonesia and representatives of Asia and Africa, symbolic signing ceremony of the Bandung Message (2015), and inauguration of the Asian-African Monument.

The Asian-African Summit 2015 and the Commemoration of the 60th Anniversary of the Bandung Conference brought together the countries of Asia and Africa who reaffirmed their commitment to the Bandung Spirit and the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, and agreed to strengthen cooperation and solidarity between the two continents to advance their common objectives of peace and development. The Summit adopted three outcome documents – the Bandung Message, a Declaration on Reinvigorating the New Asian-African Strategic Partnership, and a Declaration on Palestine.
