Karachi, May 20, 2015 (PPI-OT): President of the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), Iftikhar Ahmed Vohra has highly appreciated the untiring efforts and rapid response of Sindh Police which resulted in the arrest of four terrorists who were responsible for attacking a passenger bus at Safoora Chowk and killing at least 45 innocent passengers on board.
In a statement issued, Iftikhar Vohra said that despite limited resources, Sindh Police was doing a fine job and making all out efforts to ensure peace and stability across the city. President KCCI, while underscoring the need to enhance resources to Police department, said that police officers in Karachi city were discharging their duties in dire circumstances and they should be provided with latest state-of-the-art weapons and other necessary equipment being used globally to maintain the law and order situation.
He further urged the government to immediately announce compensation to the officers of police department who were martyred in various incidents during their quest to curb crime and maintain peace across the city. The government must also compensate the victims of Safoora Chowk incident whose loved ones were brutally murdered in broad daylight.
President KCCI further advised the authorities in police and rangers to intensify patrolling of various areas and install the highest possible number of pickets with a view to ensure that no such incident reoccurs in the city as such incidents terribly sabotage the image of Pakistan.
He was of the view that overall security situation has improved substantially in various parts of the city as the incidents pertaining to target killings, kidnapping for ransom, demand for extortion money, thefts, robberies and other street crimes have reduced sharply thanks to the ongoing operation being jointly conducted by Pakistan Rangers Sindh and Police.
