Islamabad, April 13, 2014 (PPI-OT): The Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir People’s Freedom League (JKPFL), Muhammad Farooq Rehmani, has asked the UN when will it come to the rescue of the people of Kashmir to fulfil its commitment and responsibility of ending the 67-year-old repressive Indian occupation of Jammu and Kashmir.
Muhammad Farooq Rehmani in a statement in Islamabad deplored the army and police repression in occupied Kashmir that amounted to medieval type of tyrannical governance in that region; the army was the ruling power in Kashmir and it could occupy any public or private land anywhere in the territory in the name of lease as was the latest instance of Tosa Maidan. He condemned the annexation of land by Indian army saying that the puppet regime was toothless, since it was only to carry and second the occupation orders.
The JKPFL Chairman said that in Kashmir people and the workers and sympathizers of the pro-freedom organizations had been squeezed both politically and financially, there was no freedom of speech and association for them and instead they were being implicated in different criminal cases to suffer under litigation.
“Those who were involved in cases in the courts under inhuman laws had no financial condition to defend themselves, they were forced to sell their property to meet their defence expenses,” he added.
Muhammad Farooq Rehmani said that the freedom of speech was only enjoyed by some blue-eyed boys of the Indian regime, while others were imprisoned or house arrested. “Elections without democracy and human rights were gimmicks played with the Kashmiris since 1951. Plebiscite under the UN resolutions was the prerequisite without which the process of election was mockery and claims of democratic credentials by the pro-India groups and politicians were not true. All these politicians fighting elections had no moral and political base and were there to retain the occupation rule of India and accumulate wealth as much as they could by selling Kashmir inch by inch to the foreign forces,” he added.
Farooq Rehmani urged the UN to force India to release all the Kashmiri political prisoners and withdraw all cases against them, restore civil liberties to pro-freedom parties and prove its claim of popularity in Jammu and Kashmir.
