Revitalizing it’s working, liaison with private sector needed to enable Pakistan Council for Scientific and Industrial Research become a profitable entity

Islamabad, July 04, 2013 (PPI-OT): Revitalizing it’s working and strengthening liaison with the private sector is needed to enable the Pakistan Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (PCSIR) become a profitable entity, remarked Zahid Hamid, Federal Minister for Science and Technology.

He said this during a briefing given to him by the PCSIR authorities. Chairman PCSIR, Dr .Shaukat Pervez briefed the Minister about the objectives, structures, achievements and issues of the organization. The Minister lauded the performance of PCSIR and said that in order to grab the market, PCSIR should focus on commercialization of its products. The organization should enhance its relations with the private sector that will yield into better coordination with the private companies.

Upon the importance of research, the Minister said that research for the sake of research formula has been outdated and in current circumstances our research should be focused for the welfare of the people. The Minister directed the PCSIR authorities to take initiative to establish deep linkages with business communities to gain their cooperation.

He said that in accordance with its manifesto, the present democratic government is keen to promote science and technology in the country.

The Minister directed the authorities concerned to prepare short term action plan of six months and long term action plans of three years to monitor the performance of the organization accordingly.

Federal Sectary for Science and Technology, Akhlaq Ahmad Tarar and senior officers of the organization were present in the meeting.
