Islamabad, February 16, 2015 (PPI-OT): A meeting of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) was held today under the chairmanship of Hon’ble Chief Election Commissioner of Pakistan, Justice Sardar Muhammad Raza and attended by four Hon’ble Members Election Commission of Pakistan, namely, Justice (Retd) Muhammad Roshan Essani, Justice (Retd) Riaz Kayani, Justice (Retd) Shazad Akbar Khan and Justice (Retd) Fazal-ur-Rehman. The meeting was also attended by Mr. Usman Yousaf Mobin, Chairman NADRA alongwith his team members. Syed Sher Afgan, Acting Secretary and other senior officers of the ECP were also present in the meeting.
In the meeting, the matter regarding updation/synchronization and revision of electoral rolls in general and for the forthcoming Local Government Elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province in particular were discussed in detail. After due deliberation and discussion on different aspects of the agenda, the Election Commission of Pakistan, inter alia, took the following decisions unanimously:
i) Keeping in view the forthcoming LG elections in KPK, expected to be held in May, 2015, it was decided to initiate arrangements for inclusion of names of new NIC holders entitled to be enrolled as voters and exclusion of voters who have become disqualified due to death, nationality surrender, cancelled NICs etc. The same exercise will also be carried out in Punjab, Sindh and Balochistan after completion of delimitation exercise in Punjab and Sindh.
ii) That approximately 7.8 million new NICs, issued by NADRA after General Elections-2013, will be included in to the Electoral Rolls and approximately 0.5 million or more deceased and disqualified voters which need to be excluded from the Electoral Rolls. Initially, 1.2 million voters will be included in the KPK Electoral Rolls out of 7.8 million new NIC holders in order that no new NIC holder from KPK is disenfranchised during KPK LG elections.
