Srinagar, January 12, 2013 (PPI-OT): In a latest addition to the thousands of unmarked graves exposed in occupied Kashmir, a non-political organization, Voice of Victims has said that there are more than 60 unmarked graves in Srinagar and Budgam district.
The group has started its survey from Chadoora in Budgam and civil lines areas of Srinagar.Voice of Victims releasing its report in Srinagar says that number of unmarked graves have been recently identified in the areas of Nowgam, Wanabal, Shankerpora, Kenihama Chokpora, Kanipora Chokpora, Wagoora, Pahroo, Humhama, Barzulla and Chanapora.
“…now Association of Parents of Disappeared Persons (APDP) in Kashmir is continuously demanding DNA tests for those who are buried in those unmarked graves as they can answer themselves rightly and could get rid of the dilemma that they are facing and that has affected them so badly that they are not in position to stand up in the society,” the brief report reads. The group, in its report, says that it is hard and difficult to tell who is inside these unmarked graves but one thing is certain that they were not air dropped.
“We believe that forced disappeared persons have been killed by the Indian armed forces and we demand international organizations to pressurize India for immediate DNA tests of those who are buried in those unmarked graves,” the report, accompanied with photographs, said.
The Association of Parents of Disappeared Persons and The Jammu and Kashmir Coalition of Civil Society, who recently released a thorough report “Alleged Perpetrators” – documenting the torture, killing and rapes committed by the Indian forces and police in Kashmir, has appreciated the documentation of the group.
“So far we have produced prima-facie evidence of 6217 unmarked graves and mass graves in five districts of Jammu and Kashmir.” Noted Human Rights activist and Program Coordinator of APDP, Khurram Parvez appreciated the report.
