Karachi: The British Deputy High Commissioner in Karachi, Francis Campbell hosted a largely attended reception here on Friday evening to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II.
The reception held at the British Deputy High Commission premises was attended among others by Sindh Governor, Dr. Ishrat-ul- Ebad Khan, Chief Minister, Syed Qaim Ali Shah, federal and provincial ministers, members of the diplomatic corps, prominent people from various walks of life. The British High Commissioner in Pakistan, Adam Thomson, was also present.
Speaking on the occasion, Sindh Governor, Dr. Ishrat Ul Ebad Khan, said that President of Pakistan specially asked him to represent him (the President) at the Queen’s birth anniversary and Diamond Jubilee party.
Dr. Ebad said that the United Kingdom is an important country which is an ally and a friend of Pakistan.
He further pointed out that UK is an all-weather friend of Pakistan. The Governor said that over the years the relationship between the two countries has gone from strength to strength.
He stated that this year marks the 60th year of Queen Elizabeth II as the head of Commonwealth which has been an important symbolic and unifying role.
The UK High Commissioner in Pakistan, Adam Thomson, and Deputy High Commissioner, Francis Campbell, in their remarks welcomed the guests.
