Islamabad, December 19, 2012 (PPI-OT): Radio Pakistan is broadcasting December 20‚ 1971 historic speech of the then President and founding Chairman of Pakistan Peoples Party‚ Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto tomorrow (Thursday).
The speech in English will be aired on national hook-up at 07:05 a.m. It will be repeated at 04:05 p.m. the same evening.
The speech with Urdu voice over will be broadcast at 09:05 a.m. and repeated at 03:05 p.m.
Radio Pakistan’s Current Affairs Channel National Broadcasting Service in its program ‘Naye Uffaq’ will broadcast extracts of the speech and comments by the prominent personalities‚ highlighting the historical perspective and significance of the speech.
It may be recalled that in his first speech to the nation after assuming the office of the president‚ Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto dwelt upon the wide ranging internal and external challenges faced by the country including tense relations with India and East Pakistan as well as corruption‚ nepotism and maladministration. Recounting his sacrifices for democracy‚ he expressed firm resolve to restore democracy and give the country a constitution.
He vowed to end the menaces of social injustice‚ corruption‚ nepotism and maladministration for the benefit of the common man.
Emphasizing upon the industrial and agricultural development‚ he affirmed to undertake reforms in these sectors and to protect the rights of laborers and farmers. He also talked about bringing reforms in the education sector.
Referring specifically towards the tense relations with East Pakistan‚ Zulfikar Ali Bhutto called for a negotiated settlement of issues between East and West Pakistan for a united Pakistan without foreign interference and occupation.
Condemning the foothold of Indian forces in East Pakistan‚ he called upon India to withdraw its forces from there for a peaceful solution of the issue.
