Qazi Yasir demands shifting of ‘Freedom Chacha’ from Jammu Jail

Srinagar, November 16, 2016 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the Ummat-e-Islami Chairman, Qazi Yasir has expressed serious concern over the deteriorating health of political prisoners lodged in different jails outside the Kashmir Valley.

Qazi Yasir in a statement warned authorities of serious repercussions against deteriorating health of the illegally party leader Moulana Sarjan Barkati. “The families of prisoners are unable to visit them outside Kashmir because of financial problems. He demanded shifting of illegally detained prisoners to the Valley immediately.

A delegation of Ummat-e-Islami also visited Kotbalwal Jail in Jammu and met its illegally detained senior leader, Moulana Sarjan Barkati, whose wife had earlier said she is not in a position to meet her husband due to her financial constraints.

Barkati, popularly known as “freedom chacha and Pied Piper [hero of German folk legend] of Kashmir” for his peculiar way of sloganeering during public rallies across south Kashmir was booked under black law Public Safety Act (PSA) on October 1.

Qazi Yasir said that its party is filing a petition in the court, demanding Barkati’s immediate transfer to Kashmir Valley.

Qazi Yasir said that Kashmiri lodged in jails outside are political prisoners. “They are being harassed for their role in the ongoing mass public uprising.”

Referring to the rumours about Barkati’s deteriorating health in Jammu jail, Qazi Yasir warned, “Such rumours could even become reality. Barkati’s health conditions could have serious impact on the situation in south Kashmir and the authorities and puppet regime will be responsible.”

Qazi Yasir also urged immediate shift of all the prisoners to Kashmir, including Moulana Sarjan Barkati, Hurriyat leader Ayaz Akbar, Moulana Sajad Hashmi and Noor Mohammad Kalwal.
