Islamabad, July 03, 2014 (PPI-OT): Chairman National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Qamar Zaman Chaudhry has directed NAB Rawalpindi to adopt a three-pronged strategy of expediting inquiries and investigations, focusing on prevention measures to forestall corruption and engaging general public, media and civil society to enhance awareness with a view to reducing and ultimately eradicating corruption from the country.
He was presiding a meeting at Regional NAB Rawalpindi in connection with the Annual Inspection of Regional Bureau Rawalpindi. Senior Officers of the Bureau from the NAB Rawalpindi and NAB Headquarters attended the meeting.
DG NAB (R) and Chairman Inspection Team apprised the Chairman NAB about the performance of the Regional Bureau and status of the ongoing cases, Prosecution matters and Awareness and Prevention measures.
Chairman emphasized that the backlog should be cleared as early as possible. He said disposal of cases should be more than those being instituted. He said that NAB Rawalpindi is the flagship Region of the Bureau being the focus of attention of Supervisory bodies, Media and other stakeholders because of mega corruption cases being investigated.
Chairman while approving additional manpower and financial support for the Region, expected a feedback in terms of better results. He directed Regional DG to equip the investigation officers with latest gadgets like laptops and iPads to create an enabling environment.
He desired an improvement the interrogation and other allied facilities at the Bureau. The Regional Prosecution Wing was called upon to vigorously pursue the cases in the courts. Special attention was required to be paid to old pending cases, he said.
Later, Chairman NAB addressed the officers of the Regional Bureau. He revived that NAB has huge responsibility on its shoulders not only to nab the corrupt and recover looted money but also to create an environment where corruption becomes almost impossible.
He reminded corruption leads to bad governance and denies provision of essential services to the general public. The NAB, with the help of public, media and civil society, would do whatever it takes to fight the menace of corruption at all levels. He said NAB (R) is dealing with important mega cases, therefore, it is doubly important for the Region to put extra efforts on this account.
‘’I have seen good work but there is always room for improvement. You people need to do more”, he added. He appreciated DG NAB Rawalpindi and his team for their efforts for putting in hard work to deal the complex and high value cases.
