Qaim Ali Shah presides meeting regarding wheat policy

Karachi, November 19, 2012 (PPI-OT): Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah presided a meeting regarding Sindh Wheat Policy for the year 2012-2013, held at Chief Minister House. The meeting was attended among others by Sindh Food Minister Mir Nadir Ali Mangsi, Sindh Finance Minist0.0er Syed Murad Ali Shah, Sindh Information Minister Mr. Sharjeel Enam Memon, Secretary Food Sindh Mr. Aftab Ahmed Memon, officers of Food and other departments.

Chief Minister Sindh said that President Asif Ali Zardari has desired that more wheat be procured and wheat be provided to people on subsidized price. He said that present elected government intends to provide relief to people and also to cultivators so that the achievements in food productions be continued in the larger interest of nation and province.

The meeting decided to reduce price of Rs. 2850.00 per 100 kg to Rs.2800.00 per 100 kg and there will be an overall subsidy of Rs.600 million to be borne by Government of Sindh.

The meeting was informed that Sindh Food department procured1.290 million M. Tons of wheat during last year. The releases of wheat to flour mills commenced in September 2012, and currently there is balance stock position of wheat in the godowns is 1.090 million metric tonnes, the Secretary Food said. He added that for disposal of 1.090 million M. Tons of wheat, physical and fiscal space be made available for the next procurement, as wheat stocks may get damaged due to prolonged storage period, which include exorbitant storage and incidental charges.
