Punjab University Vice-Chancellor terms political selectees a real hurdle for development

Lahore: Punjab University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran has stated that the faculty members, appointed on political basis, were the real hurdle in progress of the varsity.

He said disturbance was there where teachers on senior positions were involved in politics. He said the present administration handed over research projects to committees without keeping in view their political colour which helped promote research culture in the varsity.

He said the present administrative took steps and resolved the issues of PhD synopsis which had been pending since 2002 and approved record 600 research synopses in four years. Moreover, he said, number of PhD faculty members in the varsity was increased and it enhanced the capacity of the faculty to utilize research funding.

He said it was the responsibility of administration to provide facilities and the present administration had provided facilities to everyone regardless of any politics. He said the administration had raised research endowment fund to Rs 25 crore and it had a target to take this amount to Rs one billion and the interest of this amount would be used for research purposes and another amount of Rs 70 million was allocated for research.
