Punjab International Sports Festival: Pakistan scoop two gold medals

Lahore, November 13, 2012 (PPI-OT): Pakistan scooped to another two gold medals, as baseball and fistball earned one medal each, to raise the gold tally to 11 staying at top of medals table of the Punjab International Sports Festival 2012 here on Tuesday., It was in fact the Pakistan’s day on which the players in green not only took two gold medals but they also won two more matches.

The Punjab Greens football team stunned visiting Sri Lankan football team with a 3-0 win while another Punjab team hammered Sri Lankan fistball team 2-0 in a third position match., The Pakistan team returned smiling from the baseball field when they ripped apart the Sri Lankan team in the final 21-2 here at Iqbal Park Sports Complex ground., The score count clearly shows the dominance of Pakistan team throughout the whole innings that rattled the visiting team totally helpless., Pakistan’s Sumair Zawar scored 2 runs, Mohammad Asif, Umair Bhatti achieved 2 each, Zaheer ,Zubair, Usman, Ahsan, Ahmad, Basit and Murtaza gained one each., Sri Lankan Iresh Kosla and Chamara Piries shared one run each., Shaukat Javed, President Pakistan Federation Baseball was the chief guest on this occasion and gave the prizes to the winners and other participants.,

The second gold of the day came from the Pakistan firstball team at the University of Lahore ground where the home team defeated Nepal 3-1., Pakistan in its dominating posture got three scores and kept the visiting team at bay accept for once while the home team captain Mujadid Awan for his controlled and leading role in his team’s victory got the best player of the tournament award., In the third position match, Punjab Greens defeated Sri Lanka 2-0 and the wins of Pakistan and Punjab came in front of Pakistan Fistball Federation president MA Rauf, who is also chairman University of Lahore., In the football, league match of the festival Pakistan grabbed a surprise win over Sri Lanka 3-0. Although the win have no bearing on the final which is to be played between Yemen and Serbia on November 15 but it boosted the Punjab team’s progress into the football family., Organising secretary Mian Rizwan who managed the football event in collaboration with the Sports Board Punjab was the chief guest on the occasion and presented souvenirs to the officials and participants., Punjab Greens captain Arif Mahmood opened the account in the 15th minute and was doubled by Naseem Abbas in the 70th minute. Arif scored his second and third of the team in the 80th minute to seal win for Punjab Greens., Pakistan which is leading the table with 11 gold medals expect to win another gold in touch ball competition when the home team will take on Sri Lanka in the final today (Wednesday).
