Lahore, December 01, 2015 (PPI-OT): To share the potential business opportunities with Chinese business community, Punjab Board of Investment and Trade (PBIT) organized Punjab-Shaanxi Business Forum at the Planning and Development Department on December 01, 2015.
Representatives of more than 27 Chinese companies attended the forum. Senior officials of all the major government departments and Chambers of Commerce including Planning and Development, Public Private Partnership Cell, Industries, Agriculture, Mines and Minerals, FPCCI and Lahore Chamber of Commerce (LCCI) were also present to discuss the opportunities and to answer queries of the Chinese officials and businessmen. The forum also witnessed participation from the education sector of Punjab and China including Vice Chancellors and professors from prominent universities.
Delegation head, Mr. Sun Xiquan, Deputy General Manager, Bank of China Shaanxi branch, while addressing the audience said that Shaanxi has great potential of collaboration with Punjab in the petroleum, manufacturing, infrastructure, construction, education and engineering sectors. Shaanxi province is strong in scientific research and higher education and its R and D capability is amongst the top in China.
Dr. Suhail Saleem, Director Punjab Board of Investment and Trade (PBIT) gave a comprehensive presentation about Punjab wherein he highlighted the potential sectors, and said that due to the attractive geographical location of Pakistan, China can link itself economically with rest of the world by setting up manufacturing units in Punjab and exporting the finished products to Middle East and Europe.
He further said that Pakistan is among top ten producers of about 25 agriculture commodities in the world. 72% of the total irrigation land is in Punjab province. Currently Punjab is exporting its agriculture produce in the raw/ fresh form and is in dire need of technology for value addition.
Mr. Siddique ur Rehman Rana while speaking about the areas of collaboration said that there are 5 levels of linkage between China and Pakistan i.e. Investment and Trade, Joint Ventures, IFPS (SME Power), Training and Technology. After the presentations a B2B session was held. Two MoU’s were also signed between PBIT and Shaanxi Provincial Department of Commerce China, at the forum.
