Karachi, March 29, 2017 (PPI-OT): Sindh Minister for Social Welfare Shamim Mumtaz said that people with disabilities could prove valuable work force for the society adding that we only have to groom their hidden God gifted talent. She expressed these views on Wednesday while presiding over a meeting to explore cooperation under Public Private Partnership at her office. Secretary Social Welfare Altaf Ahmed Bijarani, Additional Secretary Social Welfare Muhammad Essa Memon, Director General Social Welfare Muhammad Raheem Lakho, Deputy Director RCPH Liaquatabad Karachi Aamir Waheed and other officers were also present.
She said that recently, on the successful completion of first tenure agreement with Panah a non-governmental organization for running Dar-ul-Aman Karachi was extended for another ten year term with improved services to destitute women who sought shelter. She said that 15 child protection units were also working with the assistance of local, national and international civil society organization in the province.
On the occasion, Aamir Waheed Deputy Director Rehabilitation Center for Physically Handicapped (RCPH ) Liaquatabad Karachi briefed that recently an agreement has been inked with NowPDP an NGO for imparting skill development vocational training to multiple handicapped including four girls. Giving details, he informed meeting that RCPH would provide logistic support, where as NowPDP have arranged block printing trainer. He said that after completion of training, exhibitions would also be arranged so that special person could showcase their products and earn livelihood in respectable manner. Minister for Social Welfare also directed Secretary Social Welfare to explore the possibilities under PPP mode to improve the quality of education and capacity building of teachers at Mashal Elementary School Mirpurkhas, Desert Flower School Umerkot, Roshan KG school Kunri and others running under the Social Welfare Department Sindh and prepare detail report within a month. She also directed to chalk out refresher course for Instructors of special person centers.
