Islamabad, December 05, 2012 (PPI-OT): The Chairman Intellectual Property Organization, Mr. Hameed Ullah Jan Afridi has emphasized that all public and private sector organizations in the realm of protection of IP Rights, should come forward and contribute to wipe out the menace of counterfeiting and piracy from the country which is one of the main cause and hindrance in local and foreign investments.
He stated this while talking to a group of media persons here on Wednesday. He said that a comprehensive policy is being formulated in the light of successful models of different developed countries to overcome the issue of IPR violations and a national IP strategy would be evolved to tackle the challenges of infringements. Responding to a question, Mr. Afridi said that investors prefer to invest in countries where IP Rights are well protected. He added that the present government is determined to provide conducive environment for local as well as foreign investment by strengthening the IP regime.
He also indicated that piracy is a major threat for our social system and economic development however; IPO-Pakistan is taking vigorous initiatives to strengthen healthy and transparent economic system in the country.
Chairman IPO said that in order to counter infringement of IP Rights in Pakistan, institutional development measures had been adopted and capacity building programmes for the officials of law enforcement agencies are in progress so that violators could be dealt according to the law.
