Karachi, November 10, 2016 (PPI-OT): In order to improve Human Rights situation and make implementation of Human Rights laws more effective in the province of Sindh, the Sindh Government, under the National Action Plan on Human Rights, has established Provincial Task Force on Human Rights, which met on Thursday at Sindh Assembly Building.
The maiden meeting of Provincial Task Force on Human Rights was convened under the Chairmanship of Special Assistant to Chief Minister Sindh for Human Rights and Chairperson of the said task force Ms. Rehana Laghari to discuss the mechanism of provincial strategy of National Action plan on Human Rights at length to improve Human Rights situation in the province of Sindh.
The meeting was attended by the other members of the Provincial Task Force which includes women members of provincial assembly of Sindh Ms. Seemi Farhat, Ms Ghazala Siyal, representative of Law Deptt, Home, Social welfare, Minorities, Information and Archives, Health, Women Development, and Human Rights Department.
The meeting discussed various laws / conventions / treaties related to Child, forced and bounded labour, Women, disabled, minorities and other rights and decided to come up in next meeting with new ideas and suggestions to make such laws more effective in the province.
Speaking to the members of the task force Chairperson Ms Rehana Laghari informed that National Action Plan on Human Rights consists of six(06) thematic areas with 16 expected outcomes and 60 actions on promotion and protection of Human Rights in Pakistan.
She further said that the thematic areas includes: Policy and legal reforms, implementing key Human rights priorities, Cross Cutting Interventions for protection and promotion of human rights, international / UN Treaty Implementation, Institutional interventions and implementation and monitoring mechanism.
She further told that provincial human rights policy strategies was a continuation of the National policy framework for Human Rights which shall streamline, facilitate and ensure implementation of National Action Plan. Upon finalising action plans Provincial Task Force for Human Rights has been oriented regarding the action plans as a mechanism to monitor and facilitate National Action Plans for Human Rights.
She also said that the Provincial Task Force had been mandated to bring legislative reforms in protection and promotion of women rights and elimination of all kind of gender based violence, rights of minorities, child, disabled, civil and political rights, right to life, liberty and security and also Jail. Such reforms would be approved by legislative assembly.
She stressed the need to increase publicity campaigns of Human Rights laws and get displayed the posters, panaflexes, stickers, banners and other printed material at police stations, courts, hospital, books stalls, bus stops, railway stations, and other public places in order to make every citizen aware about human rights related laws.
She directed to all members to come up with new recommendations and suggestions in the next meeting of task force to improve human rights related laws and make them more effective. Meanwhile, Director, Directorate of Human Rights and convener of Provincial Task Force Mr. Qamar Raza Baloch briefed the meeting about the points of National Action plan on Human Rights.
