Srinagar, February 02, 2014 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, several people were injured when Indian troops and police personnel resorted to brute force in Pulwama town against the demonstrators protesting against the killing of a youth, Ajaz Ahmad, by the troops. Amid strict curfew, youth took to the streets at many places and clashed with the police and troops deployed in strength in the town. The forces’ personnel resorted to baton charge and teargas shelling to disperse the protesters resulting in the injuring of several persons.
Meanwhile, amid massive pro-freedom demonstrations, thousands of people participated in the funeral of the martyred youth at Charsoo village in Awantipora area of Pulwama. As soon as the word about his killing spread, people from Charsoo and other villages came out on roads and held massive pro-freedom and anti-India demonstrations.
They carried the body of the martyred and blocked the highway for hours together due to which movement of traffic was disrupted. Later, they laid the martyred youth to rest in the graveyard at his native village.
The veteran Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani, who is in New Delhi, addressed the mourners over phone. He asked the people to remain steadfast in their resolve. He said that it was because of the sacrifices of martyrs that the Kashmir dispute and the sentiment of freedom were alive.
Reiterating his poll boycott call, the veteran leader said that participating in elections was tantamount to betrayal of sacrifices of the martyrs.
