Islamabad: The Spokesman of the Prime Minister’s House has strongly rejected the news reports broadcast and published in a section of electronic and print media, which sought to implicate the office of the Prime Minister in a fraud committed by one Mian Khurram Rasool. The Spokesman said that allegations levelled were contrary to the facts on the ground and intended to cast aspersions on the Chief Executive of the country.
The Spokesman stated that Mian Khurram Rasool served as a media advisor, Northern Pakistan, Pakistan Television Corporation Limited and had nothing to do with the office of the Prime Minister. He said that following facts were being presented to correct the record and misconceptions:
Mian Khurram Rasool, while working as Media Coordinator with PTV, fraudulently extracted an amount of Rs. 430 million from Mr. Pervez Hussain and his son Sameer Hussain with the collusion of other three accomplices.
On receipt of a secret report on the fraudulent activities of Mr. Khurram Rasool, Ms Nargis Sethi, the then Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, on the instructions of the Prime Minister, directed FIA to immediately initiate an enquiry into the allegation of fraud committed by Mian Khurram Rasool.
During the course of enquiry conducted by FIA, it transpired that Mian Khurram Rasool had deceitfully extracted the said amount from Mr. Pervez Hussain in connivance with his accomplices Mr. Shahid Mehmood, Zafar Jawed and Ghulam Ghouse.
Consequently, an FIR no. 05/2011 was lodged by FIA Commercial Banking Circle, Islamabad, on March 11, 2011 on the complaint of Ms. Nargis Sethi, the then Principal Secretary to PM. His services as Media Coordinator with PTV were terminated forthwith.
FIA took prompt action and arrested Mr. Zafar Jawed, brother and co-accused of Mian Khurram Rasool. It froze bank accounts and assets of the accused. It also carried out raids at the houses of the accused located at his F-414, Satellite Town, Rawalpindi and Farm House C-7, Chak Shezad, Islamabad. Interim challan was submitted by FIA against the arrested accused on 8 August 2011 and the trial court declared the absconding accused including Mian Khurram Rasool as proclaimed offenders on 26 October 2011.
Mr Pervaiz Hussain and Mr Sameer Hussain lodged contempt Petition against FIA in Islamabad High Court for non arrest of the accused. The Honourable Islamabad High Court in its Order dated November 24, 2011 expressed its satisfaction with the actions taken by FIA to arrest Mian Khurram Rasool and his absconding accomplices. The Court directed the petitioners to “assist FIA and make efforts to provide current locations of the accused persons”.
The above mentioned facts clearly prove that not only the FIR was lodged by the Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister but the Prime Minister’s Secretariat has been pursuing the case ever since its registration. However, whenever there is an occasion the case appears in the media just to sully the reputation of the Prime Minister.
