Islamabad, December 15, 2012 (PPI-OT): Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf has said that no government in the past has carried out as much development work as done by the present PPP led coalition government. He said this while addressing notables from Gujar Khan at the PM’s House this morning.
Raja Pervez Ashraf said that the amount of development work carried out by this government has no parallels. “I challenge that the amount of work carried out by this government is more than the cumulative work done by governments in the last twenty five years” he said. This can be verified from record, he affirmed.
Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf that Pakistan People’s Party believes in strengthening institutions. The appointment of Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan as Chairman Public Accounts Committee and Mr. Fakhruddin G. Ebrahim as Chief Election Commissioner are a proof of its efforts and commitment to strengthen institutions.
The Prime Minister said that contrary to “Sasti Roti Scheme or distributions of laptops” which were abandonment, the Federal Government launched the Benazir Income Support Programme, which is recognized globally as one of the best programmes launched for poverty alleviation.
Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf said that by the Grace of God we are the first civilian government which will be completing its tenure. This he said has happened despite predictions by analysts on media that we would not be able to complete our term.
“We are politicians and need no lessons from any one, we have proven it”, he said. This has been possible due to the political acumen of President Mr. Asif Ali Zardari and vision of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, said the Prime Minister.
Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf said that he is thankful to the Party for having appointed him as the Prime Minister. He posed a question; can any other political party even nominate a party worker for the office of Prime Minister? The Prime Minister said that media and judiciary are independent today. He said that they are our institutions; we want to further strengthen them.
The Prime Minister said that it was the same country, same people and yet we were importing wheat. Today, we are exporting wheat. What made this happen? It was a prudent policy, he said. Expressing confidence over the performance of his government, the Prime Minister said that we are against opposition for the sake of opposition. Let us compare records. I am ready for any debate on it, he offered.
Reiterating the firm resolve of the government that the next elections will be held in fair, free and impartial manner, the Prime Minister said that bogus votes have been eliminated and no one will be able to poll bogus votes now. He said in Gujar Khan alone 121000 bogus votes were removed from the voter list.
