Islamabad, March 05, 2013 (PPI-OT): Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf has said that Pakistan People’s Party has strived hard to eliminate the word minority from the narrative and instead address them as non-Muslim Pakistanis.
This he said while addressing a select group of students comprising children of non-Muslim Pakistanis who were awarded scholarships under a special scheme of Prime Minister to encourage and main stream non-Muslim citizens in the country.
The Prime Minister said that Constitution of Pakistan envisages that we are all Pakistanis irrespective of cast, colour and creed. It is therefore the duty of the state to provide them basic facilities like education without any discrimination.
“There can be no discrimination among citizens who rise the same flag as every citizen enjoys equal rights under the constitution” said Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf.
The Prime Minister said that “It is the duty of the state to protect the fundamental rights of the citizens”.
Welcoming the children at the Prime Minister’s House, the Prime Minister urged them to work hard for the glory of the nation by proving themselves as able citizens of the country.
The Prime Minister expressed the confidence that the children who have been awarded scholarships would benefit from the scheme.
It may be mentioned that the Federal Government has allocated an amount of Rs. 23.73 million for 3761 eligible non-Muslim students.
The function was also attended by Mr. Paul Bhatti, Advisor to PM on National Harmony and Mr. Akram Masih Gill, MOS for National Harmony.
