Islamabad, November 16, 2012 (PPI-OT): Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf has directed the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources to continue to work in close coordination with the Ministry of Water and Power and ensure provision of fuel to Thermal Power Plants so that power generation in the country is maintained at the optimum level.
This direction was given by the Prime Minister in his meeting with Advisor on Petroleum, Dr. Asim Hussain at PM’s house this afternoon.
The Prime Minister further directed the advisor to ensure uninterrupted supply of gas to domestic consumers during the winter. He asked him to sensitize the people about the winter Plan through effective media campaign.
The Prime Minister said that as winter sets in the demand for gas would increase. It is necessary that foolproof arrangements be made to ensure that supply of gas to domestic consumers remain unaffected, he added.
Referring to the Petroleum Policy 2012 for spending of 10 percent of royalty for welfare of local community, the Prime Minister said that it would go a long way in the development of far flung and remote areas of the country.
The Advisor said that government expects that the flow of direct foreign investment in Pakistan for investment in Petroleum and Gas sector would increase as a result of the new Petroleum Policy.
