Islamabad, November 16, 2012 (PPI-OT): President Asif Ali Zardari today reiterated the commitment of the Government to continue working for socio-economic welfare of the people of South Punjab, on one hand, and to pleading their case for creation of a separate province as per their aspirations, on the other.
This he said during his interaction with the parliamentarians and the notables of South Punjab at the residence of the former Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gillani during his visit to Multan today.
The President during his visit was accompanied by Federal Ministers and parliamentarians including Makhdoom Amin Faheem, Syed Khursheed Shah, Mian Manzoor Ahmed Wattoo and Mr. Nazar Gondal among others.
Upon his arrival at Multan Airport, the President was received by former Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Gillani, Federal Minister Makhdoom Shahabuddin, MNA Syed Ali Musa Gillani, Syed Abdul Kadir Gillani and other notables of the area.
During his interaction, the President said that the Government was committed to bring less developed areas at par with other parts of the country. He said that the Government will continue making every effort for the socio- economic and political development of the people of South Punjab.
He said that the Government believes in respecting the legitimate aspirations of the people of South Punjab and efforts would continue in meeting the commitments made by the Government with the people of the Seraiki belt.
The President said that the democratic government has to its credit many achievements including successes in the fight against militancy, granting provincial autonomy, brining in Eighteenth Constitutional amendment and Twentieth Constitutional amendment, the NFC Award, introduction of Aghaz-i-Huqooq-i-Balochistan, pursuing and strengthening the process of Reconciliation, launching of the Benazir Income Support Program, giving share to workers in state-run-enterprises, giving identity to the people of Pukhtunkhwa and legislating to protect women from all sorts of exploitations.
He said that it was a matter of great satisfaction to note that the flagship program of the Government, the BISP, was effectively reaching out to the people in all parts of the country especially the less developed areas regardless of any considerations whatsoever.
The President said that the developmental programs undertaken by the present Government in South Punjab would result in accelerating greater economic prosperity and the job creation for the youth of the area.
He called upon the parliamentarians and the political leaders of the area to reach out to the people so as to highlight their issues for redressal and also to sensitize them for greater participation in the political process.
The Parliamentarians and the notable of the region thanked the President for his visit and apprised him of overall situation in the region.
