Karachi, March 12, 2013 (PPI-OT): President Asif Ali Zardari today inaugurated a number of developmental projects in various parts of Sindh aimed at further improving the infrastructure of the province, and provision of health and housing facilities to the people of Sindh, who has been adversely affected by floods and rains in the province.
The various developmental projects inaugurated today included foundation stone laying of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Expressway from Garho to Shah Bundar, inauguration of new buildings of District Headquarter Hospitals at Badin, foundation laying of District Headquarter Hospitals Dadu, Emergency Trauma Centers at Taluka level Badin, Shikarpur, and the launch of Township Scheme in Karachi under the Benazir Shaheed Housing Project.
Those present at the ceremony included among others Governor Sindh, Dr. Ishratul Ibad Khan, Chief Minister Sindh, Syed Qaim Ali Shah, Lt. Gen (Retd) Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah, Managing Director Zulfikarabad Development Authority, federal and provincial Ministers, parliamentarians, MPAs and other high officials.
Addressing at the ceremony, the President said that present government while pursuing its development agenda in the past five years accorded top priority to the infrastructure development and provision of basic health and housing facilities to the people, adding that all the projects inaugurated and many more to be completed soon have been undertaken to fulfill the pledges our government made with the people of the country.
Spokesperson Senator Farhatullah Babr said that the President while commenting on the foundation stone of The President said that Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Expressway from Garho to Shah Bandur, said that the 44 Kilometer long road will contribute to the economic development of the area and the well being of the people.
The President expressed hope that the project after completion will provide easy access to fishermen on sides of River Indus and would help in alleviating poverty, development of seafood industry and minimizing losses due to lack of storage and transportation facilities.
The President on the occasion commended Lt.Gen (Retd) Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah Managing Director Zulfikarabad Development Authority and his entire team for building this road and expressed confidence that the project will stimulate the local economy by creating jobs and enhancing connectivity.
The President during his speech while referring to the Law and order situation in Karachi, said that pursuing reconciliatory approach, the government together with allies parties and other stakeholders is working for ensuring peace and stability in the city as he said safer Karachi was vital for economic development of the whole country. He said that the government is taking all possible steps for lasting peace and stability in Karachi including strengthening the civilian components of the law enforcing agencies.
The President said that government is close to complete its tenure and added that next elections in the country will be held on time. He however remarked that government would not let the militants, the sectarian elements and the anti- democratic forces to subvert the electoral process by creating a law and order situation in the country.
The Spokesperson said that the President while inaugurating today the newly constructed buildings of District Head Quarter Hospital in Badin and other health related facilities in the province, said that improvement of the health care facilities at district and grass root level is a priority of the government and for this purpose, the president stated that Sindh government undertook to up-grade District Head Quarter and taluka Head Quarter Hospitals in 17 rural districts and expressed pleasure that the project is progressing well. An investment of nearly thirteen billion rupees has been made into these projects, he said.
On government’s efforts for provision of health facilities at grass root level, the President said that until recently the state of art medical and emergency cum trauma care was beyond the reach of people of distant area and people had to travel long distances to major cities for this purpose.
According to prepared text of the speech, the President said that henceforth the people of far flung areas will be having facilities for treatment and trauma rehabilitation at their door steps which were not available to them in the past.
The President termed the provision of quality medical facilities and emergency-cum-trauma units at District and Taluka Head Quarter Hospitals, a great improvement in the health care in the province and said that these hospitals will now have emergency services, dialysis machines, operation theatres, ICUs, recovery rooms, Isolation wards and X-Rays, Ultrasound facilities besides out-patient services.
The Spokesperson said that the President today also inaugurated the Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Township Scheme in Karachi. Addressing at the inauguration ceremony, the President recalled the distribution of free low cost houses among the needy and said that provision of houses to the destitute families of Sindh is the fulfillment of yet another promise. He said that the housing and plot schemes have been launched under the Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Housing Programme and assured that plots will also be provided to deserving families in different parts of Sindh.
On government’s pro-poor initiatives, the President said that poverty alleviation and emancipation of the poor has been the guiding principles of the present democratic government and further remarked that we are guided by the vision of our visionary leaders Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto in this regard. Roti, Kapra and Makan is not merely a slogan; it is a commitment, the President said and termed the various projects inaugurated today a landmark achievements of the government of Sindh.
Speaking at the ceremony , the President said that the government is busy in fulfilling the pledges made by our leaders Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto to provide roti, kapra and makan to every citizen particularly the poor and the dispossessed of the country.
The President said that government has set up the Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Housing Cell (SBBHC) to provide housing, the basic human requirement to the poor. The Cell, the President said, has been tasked with building 6500 low cost houses in 23 districts which he added will be distributed free among the poor.
The Spokesperson said that the President expressed delight to know that the houses have been built in the far flung rural areas of the province on the beneficiaries own land where they have been living since decades.
The President said that the Township Scheme in Karachi is a great step forward and commended the Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah, the Minister for Housing Mr. Ayaz Soomro and everyone in the Benazir Housing Cell on this achievement. The President on the occasion assured that the government will continue its forward march on the agenda of socio- economic development and will continue to serve the poor people of the country in the future as well.
